Columbia (SC) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi® Fraternity, Inc.
Our programs invest in education, mentorship, leadership development, and community service — serving young men between the ages of 5 and 25 across the South Carolina Midlands.
Conceived in 1922 by Brother Leon W. Stewart and adopted at the twelfth Grand Chapter, Guide Right became Kappa Alpha Psi®’s National Service Initiative — a programme of the educational and occupational guidance of youth, primarily inspirational and informative in character. Its purpose is to place the training, experience and interest of successful men at the disposal of youth.
Nationally it is the oldest and most successful mentoring programme for young people of colour, having mentored more than 500,000 young people. In Columbia, the committee serves young men between the ages of 5 and 25. What began with a single $50 academic scholarship has grown into multiple initiatives and scholarship awards for deserving youth across the Midlands.

The Kappa Leadership Development League is the flagship initiative of the Guide Right Service Program. Columbia (SC) Alumni hosted the 18th Kappa League Conference in 2025, taking Leaguers to campuses including Claflin University.

Begun in 2015 to meet a clear need: young men at Keels needed to see and talk with role models who looked like them — intelligent, successful, highly educated. Brothers visit the school every third Thursday of the month and spend lunch with a selected group of 4th and 5th grade male students.
Fourth graders are selected by their teachers; fifth graders are grandfathered in so mentorship carries year to year. Each spring the brothers organise an educational outing for the group.

Developed in Columbia in 1976 as a local response to Guide Right, the Beautillion has since been adopted by Kappa alumni chapters across the country. The eight-month programme gives Columbia-area junior and senior high school young men extra-curricular experiences that complement the classroom.

The Bells — young ladies who accompany the Beaus throughout the experience — have been part of the programme since its founding. More than ceremonial escorts, they join workshops on social etiquette, cultural awareness, and community engagement. Together the Beaus and Bells present a unified image of promise and purpose.
