The Kappa Foundation of Columbia, SC

A Commitment to Education and Community Support

The Kappa Foundation of Columbia, SC, was established on April 5, 2013. Dedicated to championing educational opportunities, the foundation provides scholarships and organizes an annual golf tournament to raise necessary funds. Through financial assistance and community engagement, the Kappa Foundation aims to make a positive impact on individuals and the local community. The foundation’s mission focuses on supporting the educational needs of public-school students and college-bound youth, especially those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. By promoting activities and awarding scholarships, it enables the youth in the community to reach their full potential, becoming successful and productive citizens. Additionally, the Kappa Foundation supports community-based organizations, programs, and activities designed to enhance the lives of needy individuals within the South Carolina Midlands region. Their dedicated efforts ensure that education and opportunity are accessible to all, fostering a brighter future for the community.

Kappa Beautillion (KBI) Leadership Training and Scholarship

Our Mission

The nationally recognized Kappa Beautillion (pronounced bō-til’yen) Militaire was developed as a local response to The Guide Right Program, which is a national service directive of Kappa Alpha Psi. Since its inception in 1976, this program has become a landmark experience for those who have participated and has since been adopted by a multitude of other Kappa alumni chapters across the country.

The Kappa Beautillion exists to provide extra-curricular educational experiences to Columbia-area junior and senior high school males. The eight-month program, which takes place outside the regular classroom environment, complements the normal educational exposure the participants receive.

The Kappa Beautillion program is designed to enhance the participant’s academic and social maturity. We need your help identifying young men who would be interested in participating. The

Kappa Beautillion Program consists of a series of workshops including SAT Prep, social etiquette training, health awareness, financial literacy, sporting and cultural events. It is designed to instill values that result in academic excellence and strong leadership skills in young men.

During today's Kappa League meeting, we were honored to host distinguished guests: South Carolina State Representatives Annie McDaniel and Brother Dr. Ivory Thigpen, alongside political figures Jim Felder and Brother Dalton Tresvant.

Esteemed guests shared valuable insights with the young men, emphasizing the significant role that voting plays in shaping our democracy and society. Their discussions highlighted the power of civic engagement and the impact that informed and active citizens can have on the future of our communities.

Key Takeaways

· The importance of being informed about political processes and candidates.

· The necessity of participating in elections at all levels—local, state, and national.

· Understanding the historical struggles and sacrifices made for voting rights.

· Encouragement to remain engaged in civic activities beyond just voting.

We are profoundly thankful for the knowledge and wisdom imparted by Representatives McDaniel and Dr. Thigpen, as well as Mr. Felder and Brother Tresvant. Their contributions have undoubtedly enriched our beaus' understanding of the pivotal role they play in our democratic society.
