Brothers Achievement Spotlight

  

The South Carolina Department of Social Services has announced its Employee of the Month for December 2025. This month’s honor is awarded to Polemarch Torri Toland.

 Pastor, Rev. Dr. George A. Ashford, Jr., has been selected to receive Gammon Theological Seminary's Innovative Leadership Award. 

 Brother Jemal Cobb was elected as the Moderator of Regional Area #2 of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), South Carolina Region.  




Brother Dr. Harry Singleton III has been appointed as the new Lilly Director of Faith-Based Education and Engagement at the International African American Museum (IAAM). 


 We extend our appreciation to Brother Gordon English for his leadership and for providing inspiration to future leaders through new opportunities and avenues for achievement. Sheriff Leon Lott had the privilege of addressing the Caughman Road Elementary School Boys Club,  

 On November 20, 2025, Brother James Hamilton, Vice-Polemarch of the Columbia (SC) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., had the honor of participating in the Principal for a Day event at Logan Elementary School.  

  

Brother Clifton Newman participated in the Divine 9 Reading Day at John P Thomas Elementary School earlier this week. November 2025

Brother Captain Taylor Harper graduated from the US Army Finance and Comptroller School. June 1, 2025

  

Dr. Reginald A. Bess, former President of the Southeastern Council of Latin American Studies, will lecture on Afro-Cuban Literature at the annual convention in Mexico City from April 24-27. 

 On May 7, 2024, the SC Senate passed a concurrent resolution to name the intersection of Boundary Street and Dixie Dr/Hwy 34 Bypass; Henry S. Reeder, Sr. Intersection.  

 Brother Alante Snell(Columbia Alumni Spr. 23) graduated from U.S. Army Flight School. The entire process took about two years. His airframe is the UH-60 Blackhawk Helicopter. H will be flying for the South Carolina Army National Guard and will continue to be a SC State Trooper

Our second episode, “For God and Country”, shares conversation with Reverend Addison Burgess, Imam Khallid Shabazz and Rabbi Julie Schwartz who have supported the spiritual needs of troops and provided counseling to service members and comfort to the wounded as they transitioned from this life to the next.

Richland County renamed a street to honor a civic leader on Friday. Elmont Drive was renamed in honor of Brother J.T. McLawhorn, president and CEO of the Columbia Urban League since 1979. 

  

Richland Two Announces New Principal Bro. Dr. Marlon L. Thomas. The upcoming academic year will bring new leadership to Richland Northeast High School. The new appointment is effective July 1, 2024.

 United Way of the Midlands announces Calvin Elam as 2025 Humanitarian of the Year. Brother Calvin Elam is a retired Brigadier General with active duty and National Guard service totaling over 33.5 years and he holds the distinction of being the first African American Brigadier General in the history of the SC National Guard.

 Brother Mike Goodwin presented for Tedx Southlake. He was 1 of the 17 speakers selected out of 200 plus applications. His talk was Navigating awkward moments and difficult situations with a Comedian’s mindset was well received. 

  

Brother (Dr.) Elbert Pringle completed his doctoral journey and graduated from University of Dayton with his Doctor of Education - Leadership in Organizations

Brother Melvin Williams, F.SAME, FACEC, has been recognized as a “Palmetto Power” individual.  The Palmetto Power recognition honors South Carolina's most innovative and influential leaders across various sectors in the latest edition of the Business Journal.
